The Food Bank has been in the process of selecting a new truck for a few weeks now. While it’s taken some time, the process cannot be rushed, as the truck is vital to fulfilling many weekly needs. Mr. Autry and I met with a woman from a trucking company on Wednesday and went through the process of inspecting the truck in need of repair, which may be used for credit towards the newer truck. I am not mechanically inclined and I appreciated the opportunity to learn firsthand from a trustworthy connection to the Food Bank.

In going through the process, I did not realize how many options were still available when it comes to replacing the truck. I thought that we needed to sell the truck right out, but I learned that there were indeed options. My first thought might be to just sell the truck and call it a day but I learned that the front of the truck could be replaced, since the back was in working order. In doing this, the cost will drop exponentially and may prove to be a much better alternative to just selling the truck outright. This never would have occurred to me, based on how little I know about this subject.

In moving forward, Mr. Autry will take the information that he has been given and speak with his board before a final decision is made. I recognize that one must use discernment and wisdom and make the best decision that they can, making the best use of finances on this important decision. An administrator is trusted to act on subjects that they may not know much about and as such, must make the most informed decision that they can. As I strive to make these types of decisions in areas that I do not know much about, I will not allow pride to cloud my judgment and will continue to prioritize seeking out guidance from outside sources.
