Internship Dates – 6/4, 6/5, & 6/6 (Total of 20 hours)
While this week is only my second week at the Community Food Bank, I feel that I have acclimated to such an extent that it seems like I’ve been there for much longer. I have enjoyed getting to know the different employees at the Food Bank and have found their passion for what they do to be very inspirational. I have spent a lot of time with the Executive Director, but also with both of the main managers, learning from them as much as I can. The Office Manager will be leaving the Food Bank this week and so I’m hoping to glean as much information as I can from her before she departs to lead in a different context.
One of the big examples this week that I was able to provide administrative assistance was through my familiarity with the Microsoft programs. I have had to use in various contexts programs such as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, and this knowledge has proved very important at the Food Bank. Tuesday morning I came in and the Warehouse Manager, Sharon, came to me stating that there was an issue with the cells in the invoice form, which was proving to be a massive headache. I sat down with the file and worked with some of the formulas in the cells and was thankfully able to figure it out.
Due to the high volume of groups that come into the Food Bank, I have found some areas to be very stressful, which emphasizes my need to practice some of the coping mechanisms that I’ve developed in my personal life. It is a stressful environment at times and I have seen some of the employees and their reactions to these types of stressors. I feel that in being a great example of responding well to stress, I could possibly be an example to them of how one should act under pressure. I am committed to being a help to this organization and I look forward to continuing to do what I can to assist the Food Bank in moving forward.
