As we move into week two of the practicum experience, I have been a little frustrated because I have not been able to officially begin at my placement yet at the Community Food Bank of Citrus County. I currently work at a private school in Inverness, Florida, and we are just finishing up for the year. While I was originally expecting to begin practicum today, my employer informed me on Monday that our last day would be pushed back to Thursday, May 24th. I was already aware that my supervisor would not be available on Friday, as he will be going away with his family for the holiday weekend. As such, my official first day will be on Tuesday.

This week’s focus in the course has been on stress and while this has been a stressful situation, I have been able to focus on the positives in the midst of the situation in order to not become more frustrated, annoyed, or discouraged. One of the biggest positives is that I have been in regular contact with my supervisor at the Food Bank. We’ve been able to dialogue about some of his ideas for my time at the site, which I believe will greatly assist me in transitioning into this new internship role. Another reminder is that while this week has had conflicts, I will not have to worry about this for the rest of the summer, because our school year has ended. Each situation has had a silver lining and I appreciate being able to notice them.

In conclusion, I anxiously look forward to starting my time with the Food Bank on Tuesday. I recognize that while these recent setbacks were not ideal, throughout the internship there will be other setbacks that, while difficult, are a part of life and one must overcome. Getting over these will not always be as easy as this week and as such I am thankful for the opportunity to reflect on this subject prior to the beginning of my time at the Community Food Bank.
